In Building Great Businesses, Scott Becker shares the lessons behind his decades of wins and losses—showing how clarity, focus, and disciplined execution create lasting success. What do media, healthcare, law, private equity and venture capital have in common? They’re all industries and areas where Scott Becker has built thriving businesses and has had an outsized impact as a business builder and thought leader. What works in some areas and enterprises often works in others, no matter the field. In Building Great Businesses: Lessons from a Career of Wins and Losses, Becker—entrepreneur, investor, attorney and founder of Becker’s Healthcare—shares a candid, practical guide to entrepreneurship and leadership drawn from three decades of experience. Over the course of his career, Becker built, with great teams, two major ventures from the ground up—one of the most influential media platforms in the health industry and a nationally recognized health care legal practice. Along the way, he experienced both exhilarating wins and hard-fought losses. In this book, he distills those lessons into timeless insights for anyone striving to build something meaningful and enduring. Becker reveals what it really takes to create and sustain success—how to find your niche, scale strategically, manage risk, and build resilient teams. He also explains when to double down, when to pivot, and how to navigate both opportunity and adversity with clarity and focus. Building Great Businesses bridges theory and practice through straightforward advice and memorable stories. There are no shortcuts, Becker reminds us—but purpose, disciplined execution, and a willingness to learn from every outcome will take you far. Whether you’re a founder, professional, or aspiring leader, this book will help you grow not just a profitable business, but a great one.
