H.H. German is the creator and writer of Here Comes CALICO, and the founder of Sigma Comics. Born in The Bronx, and raised partly in The Dominican Republic, H.H. German was drawn to comic books and manga at a very young age. His nuclear family emigrated to the U.S. and settled into an Italian community in the Northern Bronx called Pelham Bay. He grew up speaking Spanish and Italian, and comic books were not only key to helping him learn English, but also inspiring him to overcome bullying in his tough Bronx neighborhood. German became an amateur boxer, honing his fighting skills at the world famous Morris Park Boxing Club, now known as Star Boxing, where he trained alongside world champions, such as Aaron "Superman" Davis, and Louis "Honey Boy" Del Valle. He eventually obtained a fine arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and writes comic books and manga focused on fighting animal abuse.
