Step into a world where mist-clad hills echo with ancient magic and every shadow hides a tale. Celtic Folk And Fairy Tales, collected by Joseph Jacobs, gathers the most enchanting stories from the heart of traditional Irish folklore, weaving together a tapestry of mythical creatures and legends that have shaped Celtic imagination for centuries. Each story shimmers with wonder - perfect for bedtime stories for children or sharing at family storytime, yet layered with the depth that classic folklore stories offer to readers of all ages. This cherished celtic fairy tales collection brings together a folk and fairy anthology reminiscent of the Andrew Lang fairy books and the Grimm brothers fairy tales, yet distinct in its lyrical evocation of the Celtic spirit. From tales of cunning fairies and brave heroes to glimpses of the otherworld, Jacobs's anthology is a window into the magic and wonder tales that once flickered by the firesides of the Victorian era. As both a literary keepsake and an accessible introduction to celtic mythology tales, it invites casual readers and classic-literature collectors alike to savour the enduring power of these narratives. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
Joseph Jacobs (29 August 1854 - 30 January 1916) was a British-Jewish folklorist, translator, literary critic, social scientist, historian, and writer of English literature who was born in New South Wales. He became a well-known collector and publisher of English folklore. Jacobs was brought up in a Jewish household in Sydney. His writings went on to promote variations of English fairy stories like "Jack as well as the Beanstalk," "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," "The Three Little Pigs," "Jack the Great Killer," or the "History of Tom Thumb." He published a pair of collections of English fairy tales, titled English Fairy Tales in 1890 and More English Fairy Stories in 1893, but he also published fairy tales collected from continental Europe, as well as Jewish, Celtic, and Indian fairytales, making him one of the most popular writers of fairytales for the English language.
