Based on an analysis of five films - Sex, Lies and Videotape, Denise is Calling, The Cat is Missing, Till Death Do Us Part and Run Lola Run - Rosane Pires Batista, a sociologist, examines cinema as a form of artistic expression, whose images are the result of a construction and are expressed as a discourse capable of reflecting on issues present in society. The images constitute a fruitful field of analysis for questions about contemporary sociability. It is the interaction of the individual in the space of the metropolis that is being constructed, permeated by new technologies and the spread of the monetary economy. The author emphasises the new forms of interaction of this contemporary individual and highlights elements such as isolation, loneliness, love, indifference, death, agoraphobia, and constant lack of time, which should be understood as fragments of social life.
