This master's thesis explores the options available for tackling climate change at the regional level. It also examines how effective cooperation between different regional actors can be achieved and what challenges a region faces in implementing a regional energy transition. The thesis is an analysis of climate-related initiatives at the regional level, using the example of the Römerland Carnuntum Energy Region. The focus of the work is on local options for action and the identification of important actors in the region. In addition, the motives behind the creation of the Energy Region are examined, as well as the specific difficulties and challenges that have arisen in the course of these developments. Finally, the results achieved are critically analysed and factors are identified that have both a positive and a negative impact on the goal of a regional energy transition.
