Er wurde im bergigen Westen der Elfenbeinküste, genauer gesagt in Gouétimba, geboren und besuchte die Grundschule in Gouétimba und Dozéré. Nach dem Abitur kehrte er in die USA zurück, um einen Doktortitel in Geisteswissenschaften zu erwerben.
