Dr Ankush Chandra, M.D., M.S. born in New York on 19th August 1989, grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, a distinguished neurological surgeon. He has made significant contributions to the field of neuroscience and neurosurgery. Ankush received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in Neurological Surgery from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan and graduated with honors in Biomedical Research. This accolade was conferred upon him during a special convocation. Dr Chandra also holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Medical Sciences from Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, and a Bachelor's degree (BA) in Neuroscience and Biology from Boston University. His academic journey is marked by excellence and dedication, reflected in numerous awards and honors. Ankush's research career began as a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Harvard University School of Medicine, Boston where he made significant contributions to neuroscience research. He also served as a Research Fellow at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Cambridge, MA. One of the most notable achievements of Dr Chandra is being awarded the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Medical Research Fellowship in Neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine, spanning from 2016 to 2023. This fellowship is one of the highest honors for a young investigator in the United States. Dr Chandra has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Comprehensive Academic Honors, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellowship (HHMI), AOA Carolyn Kuckein Research Award, AANS Medical Student Research Fellowship, BCBS Michigan Research Award, Ralph Wadley MD Scholarship, BMA Endowed Scholarship, Wayne State Board of Governors Scholarship, Sarah and John Tait Endowed Scholarship for Cancer Research, Robert F. Troxley Award in Biochemistry, Boston University Scarlet Key Award, Commitment to Residence Life Award, Distinction in Neuroscience, and the Summer Undergraduate Research Grant. He is also a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He has published more than 100 original research papers in prestigious journals, such as- JAMA Oncology, Lancet Neurology, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Cancer Research, Journal of Neuro-Oncology, Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI), Journal of Neuroscience, and Journal of Neurosurgery. Additionally, he has edited two volumes of the book titled Makers of Indian History. Dr Chandra's early interest in medicine and research was evident during his summer internship in 2007 at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital of Weill Cornell Medical College, where he was trained under the guidance of Prof. Brij B. Saxena in the laboratory of Reproductive Endocrinology, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. This experience provided him with a solid foundation in understanding the immunological and molecular mechanisms involved in hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal regulation and function, after completing his High School with distinction from Springdale's School, New Delhi, India in 2007. Currently, Dr Ankush Chandra is pursuing a challenging career in Neurological Surgery at McGovern Medical School, University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Houston, Texas. He specializes in glioblastoma and brain surgery, continuing his dedication to advancing medical science and improving patient outcomes. Dr Ankush Chandra has also served as the President and Captain of the Boston University Cricket Club, Chief Curriculum Officer-Innoworks United Academy at Boston University.
