Pratap Chandra Samal was born in a rural village Patrakana, Cuttack, Odisha in 1962. His father Madan Samal was a farmer. whose annual income was insufficient for his family. He has seen and feels what poverty is very closely. By facing poverty, he completed his education M.A. in English from Sambalpur University and LL.B. from Utkal University. He joined in a college as a lecturer but left the job after four years and joined in the cooperative revolution. After visiting different states as an exposure visitor to different cooperative organizations and gained some knowledge in different co-operative sectors. He has written more than 200 articles on cooperative in Odia and English published in daily newspapers The Pioneer, Samaj, Pragativadi, Dharitri, Sakala & Odisha Express which give people immense pleasure to learn that the cooperative movement in India since its inception has been playing a crucial role in socio economic development of the country.
