Based on the historical constitution of Physical Education in Brazil, this book seeks to explain the links established between power relations and the conceptions and knowledge of teacher training. Power relations are analysed based on Michel Foucault's thinking, in which power generates knowledge and the knowledge generated goes on to establish new power relations. In the case of Physical Education, it is understood that the predominantly biological knowledge generated throughout modernity is directly related to the ideological, political and economic power exercised over individuals' bodies.
