This paper addresses the question of which martial arts are suitable for use in social pedagogical measures-with a view to promoting self-control in order to respond to aggression and violence in children, adolescents, and young adults. Martial arts are sometimes considered for educational measures, although it has been shown that existing approaches are subject to massive criticism from social pedagogical positions. This is taken as an opportunity to discuss the possible use of martial arts for the social pedagogical promotion of self-control within the framework of violence prevention objectives. Using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods, various types of martial arts (taekwondo) are examined in order to discuss the conditions that need to be addressed in the educational design of martial arts measures with a view to training self-control. The approach involves conducting a correlative study and expert interviews.
