Autorenporträt
Jonathan Lippitt Brewer was born in Los Angeles in 1948. He is a graduate of St. John's College, Santa Fe, N.M. (B.A., Liberal Arts) and the University of California, Berkeley (M.A., Ph.D., English Literature). He has studied with the poets Charles Bell, Arnold Weinstein, John Anson, Robert Pinsky, and Peter Dale Scott. In 1971, he became a conscientious objector and fulfilled his alternate service by teaching English in northern Thailand. He later lived in India and spent time in and out of ashrams, until he entered graduate school and wrote a dissertation on Eastern meditative practice in the poetry of Yeats, Pound, and Snyder. In 1996, he went to Japan as a tourist, stayed-on as a part-time teacher at several colleges and universities in Kyoto, and eventually became a Foreign Lecturer of English & American Literature at two national universities-Nara Women's University (2004-2012) and Kyushu University (2013-2015). He currently lives in Sacramento, CA.
