This research work involves the preparation and studies of Corrosion properties of ZA-27/SiC Metal Matrix Composites. The composites were prepared by liquid melt metallurgy technique through the process of Vortex method. ZA-27 containing 0%, 2%, 4%, and 6% of SiC particulate by weight was prepared. The prepared composites are subjected to evaluation of corrosion property by weight loss test, open circuit potential test, potentiodynamic studies, stress corrosion test, Mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile strength were conducted for both as cast and heat treated condition and micro…mehr

The prepared composites are subjected to evaluation of corrosion property by weight loss test, open circuit potential test, potentiodynamic studies, stress corrosion test, Mechanical properties such as ultimate tensile strength were conducted for both as cast and heat treated condition and micro structural studies. The corrosion behaviour of ZA-27alloy was studied by immersion test. The samples were prepared according to ASTM standards. 20mm x 20 mm cylindrical specimens were machined for this test. They suspended in the corrosive medium for different time intervals up to 96 hours in steps of 24 hours. The tests were conducted indifferent concentrations of HCl, NaCl, NaOH and equimolar solutions ofNaCl and NaOH. The corresponding changes in the weights were noted.Corrosion rates were computed using the equation Corrosion rate = 534W/DAT mpy Where W is the weight loss in gm, D is density.
