The conservation of water and soil is provided by the permanent soil cover, i.e., by the maintenance of soil covered with a straw layer during the whole year, which is one of the three pillars needed to accomplish an efficient no-tillage system, complemented by the absence of soil revolving and by crop rotation. O autor tem Licenciatura (2000) em Agronomia e Mestrado (2004) e Doutoramento (2012) em Sistemas de Cultura pela FEIS/UNESP e Pós-Doutoramento pela FCA/UNESP (2016). Actualmente é Investigador Científico do Instituto Agronómico - IAC. A sua linha de investigação envolve sistemas de culturas sustentáveis.
