Every year, a lottery is held to select sixty teens to be given the honor of becoming Jewels and dedicating their lives to the king. Being a Jewel isn't all parades and looking pretty, though. The Kingdom of Banne sits on the edge of revolution and this newest class will be called to battle too soon. ¿ Onyx spent her life in service to the elemental spirit, Isa, before learning she was to become a Jewel and must now find a way to merge her peaceful heart with the violence of a soldier. ¿ She isn't the only unlikely Jewel, though; the royal prince, third in line for the crown and not seen in a decade, walks among them. It's a good thing no one recognizes him after so long because the looming revolution has painted a target on his back just as surely as it has his father. ¿ It will take everything Isa's gentle child and the hidden prince have to become a Jewel with both body and soul intact.
Jason was born in the shadows of the Bridger Mountains and, with the exception of four years spent at Fort Sam Houston with the army, has lived in Montana his entire life. He currently calls East Helena home, where he lives with his wife, youngest son, and their two dogs, Tux and Sweetie. Jason works as an IT specialist for a small nonprofit that provides services to the developmentally disabled. Outside of work, he is a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism where he has spent the past thirty-plus years studying and sharing his love for fencing. His two main vices are collecting guitars and guns, both of which make great stress relievers. His favorites are a Fender Vintera '60s Mustang and a BSA Majestic Featherweight .30-06.¿ Jason earned his Bachelor of Arts in software engineering from Carroll College and his Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Southern New Hampshire University.
