Oliver McPherson-Smith holds a DPhil in politics from the University of Oxford, an MA in Middle Eastern studies from Harvard University, and a BA in land economy from the University of Cambridge. Before pursuing academic research, McPherson-Smith enjoyed a career as a broadcast journalist in Africa and the Middle East.
