The main character, Cuauhtemoc, is born in a small village in the northwestern part of Maya: the story line follows his life from birth, through birdmanschool, where he learns to become a birdman and carry messages. The account unwinds, telling of his adventures, his fights with pirate raiders as well as some of his own people; and by the end of the book he is twelve years of age and is sent to the City of Emperors by the Commander of the soldier’s garrison.

Nací en Susanville, California, en abril de 1943. En mis primeros años, mi familia se trasladó con frecuencia y me crié en California, Arizona, Florida, Nevada, Idaho y Montana, por nombrar sólo algunos lugares. Pasé seis años en el ejército y estuve destinado en Alemania a mediados de los setenta. Trabajé sobre todo como soldador y mecánico de automóviles, pero en todo este tiempo me encontraba atrapado (mentalmente) creando historias. Mis aficiones incluyen la fotografía, la pesca, el senderismo y otras actividades al aire libre; pero mi pasatiempo favorito es crear historias en mi cabeza; historias de otros tiempos y lugares: estas historias pueden tener lugar en la Tierra que conocemos ahora; en la Tierra que conocimos una vez; en la Tierra como podría ser dentro de cientos de años y en mundos y realidades alternativos. En los últimos años, decidí plasmar algunos de estos pensamientos en papel y este libro que supongo que tienes en tus manos es una de esas realidades.
