Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) have been leading cause of morbidity and mortality in India. The growth of heart diseases is dependent on a number of interlinked factors such as aging, changing lifestyles and food habits, and other rapidly evolving socioeconomic determinants across developing nations. Higher income levels and globalization have induced a nutritional shift resulting in the rise of unhealthy food and decreased intake of fruits and vegetables. CVD risk assessment tool is a simple and effective way for identifying the at-risk population for developing CVD and hence potentially cost-effective strategies can be developed for CVD prevention in developing nations. The Framingham Risk Score (FRS) is one such risk assessment tool which is a gender-specific algorithm used to estimate the 10-year CVD risk of an individual. This Study assesses the CVD risk among selected retrospective cases using FRS (2009) so as to predict and prevent incidences of CVD and to reduce modifiable risk factors for developing CVD. Risk assessment tools will also help to prevent out of pocket (OOP) catastrophic expenditure on medical treatments.
