It addresses birth, illness, death, and resiliency in all these verses. The poet studied with Robert Hass, Ellen Bass, Ada Limon, Dorianne Laux, Joseph Millar, Maria Mazziotti Gillan, Frank Gaspar, Mark Doty, Jane Hirshfield, and Mary Oliver. First influences were Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, William Wordsworth, and especially John Keats.
