It is precolonial West Africa where ethnic and foreign kidnappings rage. Unknown attackers brutally murder sixteen-year-old Tegana Sadinka's parents, his grandpa, and his wife. His older brother, three sisters, and all the young people are kidnapped, while the old and sick are butchered and the village is ransacked. As the only surviving family member, it is Tegana's duty to locate his siblings and the perpetrators. Unfortunately, sea creatures (later known as Portuguese Sailors) interrupt his search with violence. Under these circumstances, it isn't easy to discover his remaining family members while also maintaining his freedom. Later, Tegana and his mentor stumble upon the aftermath of a heinous attack on their village carried out by unknown butchers. Soon, even Tegana's mentor abandons him, and he is left alone. Luckily, he comes upon a group of people in an initiation camp, and they take him in. Meanwhile, Tegana's siblings survive through struggles of their own. During this time, Tegana becomes a well-known, powerful fighter. As a warrior leader, he plans a vengeful battle against those who have wronged him, unaware that his own brother is now the enemy. After all that has happened, can they come to a peaceful truce, or is it too late to save the Sadinka family from bloody revenge?
