This volume brings together the contributions to the International Hegel Congress 2023, which was dedicated to the topic of philosophy's self-understanding and its relationship to the (other) sciences. Philosophy must come to an understanding of itself in order to find an appropriate way of dealing with other sciences and disciplines. Even more: philosophy cannot say what it is if it does not analyse its relationship to the other sciences. From this point of view, the self-understanding of philosophy is a task that is as worthwhile as it is urgent. This task arises not only from philosophy's own systematics, but must also be taken on historically. A reference to Hegel is particularly suitable for this purpose: Hegel, more than almost anyone else, saw the self-understanding of philosophy, the singular of which he repeatedly emphasised, as a decisive philosophical task. The topic is therefore suitable for a Hegel Congress that aims to go beyond Hegel, not only because of the importance of the self-understanding of philosophy in Hegel's thought, but also because Hegel's approach to it suggests an interesting systematic approach. The resulting aspects also determine the thematic focus of the contributions in this volume.
