Blood. Steam. Betrayal. Only one monster walks out alive. When Miss ¿epe¿ walks away from the Vanguard, she knows it isn't freedom-it's a summons. Her family, the ancient and ruthless ¿epe¿ clan, has called her home to Romania. But what awaits her beneath the decaying monasteries and iron towers of Bucharest isn't family-it's a labyrinth built to break her mind, body, and soul. Haunted by betrayal, hunted by her bloodline, and drawn into a nightmare of machines and monsters, Miss ¿epe¿ faces a choice that will redefine her forever: die as their experiment-or rise as their greatest weapon. As darkness spreads across Europe and the Vanguard teeters on collapse, the girl they forged in shadow must become the thing they fear most. Because you can't cage what was born to hunt. DAYWALKER: BLOOD & STEAM is a neo-gothic horror that straddles dark steampunk & gaslamp dread and dominates them. Content notes: violence, body horror (surgical/biomechanical), cult/family abuse, vampiric themes. For readers of: Gideon the Ninth, The Infernal Devices, Mexican Gothic, The Faithful and the Fallen's brutality, and the red-lit romance of classic vampire myth-minus the romance.
Autorenporträt
S. Black is a father-daughter team writing stories somewhere between school runs, bedtime routines, and the occasional quiet moment. The name "S. Black" was chosen partly for privacy-because if the books don't sell, no one will know, and if they do, well... kids can be cruel, and no young child should have to deal with playground critiques from amateur book reviewers or questions from 6th graders like " Do Buffy & Calvin hook up??" . Together, they've built a world of adventure, heart, and humor-often tested live during bedtime reading sessions. If a chapter earns silence, it stays. If it earns an eye-roll, it's back to the keyboard. The goal? To write books with strong, thoughtful characters-ones that girls can look up to and boys can relate to. Stories that entertain, reflect real kids/teens/adults, and sometimes even start a good conversation. And if it all turns out to be terrible? Well, maybe one day the younger half of this duo will rewrite them properly-and remember those bedtime stories as the start of something special.
