"Internal" depression is characterized by physical symptoms such as insomnia, loss of appetite, and disability.This book will focus on the Pathobiology of depression and will give a deep insight on the promising role of nanotechnology for the treatment of this disease. In this context, we will discuss the drawbacks of the currently used conventional drugs for depression treatment and the challenges they affront to make their actions and their possible side effects. Then, we will discuss the role of nanotechnology in enhancing the delivery of drugs to the CNS and especially in depression treatment. We will finally present some examples of the effective use of nanoparticles in the handling of depression.

Heba Fahmy nasceu no Cairo, Egito, em 1983. Atualmente, é professora de Biofísica na Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Cairo. Obteve a licenciatura, o mestrado e o doutoramento em biofísica médica na Universidade do Cairo. Os seus interesses de investigação: Neurociência; Nanotecnologia; Nanotoxicologia; Libertação de fármacos; Eletrofisiologia.
