Autorenporträt
Theodor Herzl,geboren 1860 in Budapest, studierte in Wien Rechtswissenschaften.. Als Korrespondent der Neuen Freien Presse berichtete er drei Jahre lang aus Paris, unter anderem über die Dreyfus-Affäre. Unter diesen Eindrücken veröffentlichte er 1896 seine Schrift Der Judenstaat. Anschließend arbeitete Herzl als Feuilletonist für die Neue Freie Presse. Zeit seines Lebens kämpfte er für sein großes Ziel, eine Heimstätte des jüdischen Volkes in Palästina zu errichten. 1904 starb er in Edlach bei Reichenau.
