Applications and classification of the materials was approached from their sources, i.e. metals, polymerics, ceramics and composites. While looking at materials from an engineering and design perspective, it is not lost to the author the need to entertain the leisure reader as well. Meant for college and university students, the layout and language is intentionally simple enough to be understood by even the leisure reader.

Dr. Samuel M. Maina ist Dozent für Industriedesign an der School of the Arts and Design, College of Architecture and Engineering der Universität von Nairobi. Er unterrichtet auch an anderen Institutionen und Universitäten in Kenia. Neben dem vorliegenden Band hat Dr. Maina auch Lehrbücher über Designmaterialien und -prozesse, Ergonomie usw. verfasst.
