The study aims to maintain the flexibility of the fresh pig heart for four to seven days and to stop or delay the degradation of the heart tissue. This allows AVVie to test its newly invented mitral valve in the MCL system in pig hearts to monitor their performance and quality over several days. The GAF solution was used as an alternative to other fixatives as it is safer, non-carcinogenic and low in toxicity. Six fresh pig hearts were fixed by injecting their blood vessels with GAF and then immersing them in the solution. Three of these fixed hearts were examined after four days and three after seven days. These hearts were tested in the MCL system and their performance and flexibility were observed to compare them with fresh hearts. Initial results showed that the four-day fixed hearts had satisfactory flexibility and color and retained their original odor, indicating successful fixation. By avoiding errors and optimizing the mixing ratios, better and more valid results are expected in the future.
