Prasanta Chakraborty ha conseguito l'M.Sc. e il Ph.D presso l'Università Jadavpur di Kolkata, in India, il post-dottorato e il visiting scientist presso la Scuola di Medicina della Washington Univ. di St. Louis, USA. Ha svolto la sua carriera di ricercatore presso l'Istituto Indiano di Biologia Chimica di Kolkata ed è andato in pensione come responsabile della divisione di monitoraggio dei progetti dell'Istituto. Attualmente è associato al Center for nanosc.
