Autorenporträt
Paul Heyse (1830-1919), der Inbegriff des deutschsprachigen Dichters, war seit seinem 24. Lebensjahr Poeta laureatus am Hof Maximilians II. Mit seinen Novellen erlangte er in den siebziger Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts große Berühmtheit. Sie wurden insbesondere für ihre 'vornehme Einfachheit', die sie unverkennbar machen, geschätzt. Später geriet er - und mit ihm sein Werk - ins Kreuzfeuer der Kritik. Von den Naturalisten wurde er wegen seiner bislang unangefochtenen Stellung als Vorzeigedichter angefeindet, andere verurteilten seine Novellen als zu unmoralisch. 1910 erhielt Paul Heyse für sein dichterisches Werk den Nobelpreis für Literatur.
