The author analyzes the documents produced by public teachers and inspectors of public primary education in the town of São Sebastião on the north coast of São Paulo in the period from 1840, when the first schools were created in the more distant districts of the town, to 1889, the end of the imperial period. Er studierte Biowissenschaften an der Päpstlichen Katholischen Universität von Campinas und Pädagogik an der Fakultät für Wissenschaften und Literatur Plínio Arruda do Amaral und erwarb einen Master in Pädagogik an der Universität von São Francisco. Derzeit ist er Dozent und Koordinator des Pädagogikkurses am Centro Universitário Modulo und der Faculdade de São Sebastião - FASS.
