Set in the years before, during, and just after the Islamic Revolution, Early Tales from Behind the Walls of Terror is a collection of stories intimately depicting the lives of Iranian people-their heritage and spirit, their remembrances and regrets, their suffering and resilience throughout a toxic religious and political upheaval. This collection is dedicated to the lives of honest, patriotic Iranian men, women, and children who opposed Khomeini's dictatorship, put their lives in danger, were executed, became refugees, and endured poverty. Author Val Zolfaghari's love for his land and its people still lives in his heart in the diaspora.
Val Zolfaghari was born in western Iran, and educated in England and the US. He returned to his homeland in 1975. During the Islamic Revolution, Val's love for his country prevented him from leaving like many other highly educated citizens. He openly opposed the dictatorial regime and was arrested and imprisoned for months. After his release and six years of contributing to the manufacturing industry, he was forced to leave Iran.During the next few years, Val lived in Turkey, Spain, and Canada. Eventually, he was able to join his older brother in the Los Angeles area. He earned a math credential, Master of Education, and administrative certificate and taught for sixteen years in inner-city schools. Since his retirement, he has turned his talent to writing. Val was a board member of the San Diego Writers and Editors Guild and has published nine short stories in San Diego Writers and Editors Anthologies.
