A fatal plane crash throws investigative reporter Veronica Bryson-Laquette into a tailspin. Wracked with grief, she embarks on a quest to find her husband's doppelgänger or to discover the facts surrounding his alleged death. The man was a psychic-one of the most gifted psychics to grace the known world-and the possibility of him boarding a plane destined to crash was slim to none. She'd find answers somewhere in Cleveland, Ohio, but she may not be the only one searching for them-or him. With a thumb-sized-gifted-fetus in tow skewing her sixth sense, Ronnie soon becomes entrenched in the FBI investigation of the serial killer known as "The Taxidermist," a madman stalking and killing on the streets of Cleveland. But there may be more to this madman than a fetish for the perfect skin. Meanwhile, already submersed in a mission to uncover an eighteen-year-old conspiracy, former Jade Laquette battles his inherent penchant for the dark side. Overlapping images of the distant past and glimpses of the future test his psychic talents to the limit as he realizes the continued threat to his wife and unborn child hovering on the edges of the present. And history is on the brink of repeating itself. In a race against what was and what could be, he needs to find that single moment in time to alter events before the past catches up to all of them.
The influence of rural living radiates throughout J. K. Grueber's novels as she was born and raised in a small town in Western Pennsylvania. Even though she lived within spitting distance of Pittsburgh, most of her escapades involved farm country and horses-a lifestyle she continues to embrace. Presently, she and her husband, Steve, live on a small horse farm in Northeast Ohio, where she tends to twenty-plus Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds along with two Great Pyrenees, a dozen ducks, and a plethora of cats. She divides her time between writing paranormal mysteries (with a heavy dose of suspense) and breeding, training, and racing Thoroughbreds.
