Rav Berg nació en la ciudad de Nueva York en una familia de eruditos y maestros espirituales. Después de muchos años de estudios religiosos tradicionales, fue nombrado como rabino por el reconocido seminario rabínico Torá VaDaat. Fue un hombre de negocios que quería hacer una diferencia en este mundo, siempre estaba en búsqueda de su verdadero camino. Después de un encuentro casual con Rav Yehuda Brandwein, uno de los kabbalistas más grandes del siglo XX, Rav Berg supo que había encontrado a su maestro y cambió su vida de negocios por una oportunidad de estudiar junto a Rav Brandwein.
