Shaima s. Mahmood nasceu na cidade de Sulaimani, na região do Curdistão. Obteve a licenciatura em 2008 e o mestrado em 2014 em fisiologia de peixes. Trabalha como professora assistente no departamento de ciência animal, faculdade de agricultura, universidade de Sulaimani.
