Margarita Londoño fue una escritora y periodista colombiana nacida en Bogotá, pero criada desde muy pequeña en Cali. Estudió Administración de las Comunicaciones en Boston y se graduó de Comunicadora Social en la Universidad del Valle, en Colombia. Obtuvo la Maestría en Periodismo en la Universidad de Sao Paulo, Brasil, con su tesis laureada Las Hojas del Diario. Desde entonces conjugó el oficio de escritora con sus actividades como docente, periodista y política. Fue directora del Diario Occidente y del Departamento de Gestión Ambiental de Cali y columnista de varios periódicos como El Espectador, El Tiempo, El País y Occidente de Cali. Colaboró en la creación del canal regional Telepacífico, fue elegida senadora de la República para el período 1998-2002, y en dos ocasiones candidata a la Alcaldía de Cali. Falleció a los 69 años el 18 de noviembre de 2021 en Santander de Quilichao, municipio caucano donde residía. Margarita Londoño was a Colombian writer and journalist, born in Bogotá but raised from a very young age in Cali. She studied Communications Management in Boston and earned a degree in Social Communication from the Universidad del Valle in Colombia. She obtained a Master's in Journalism from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, with her award-winning thesis, Las Hojas del Diario. From then on, she combined her writing career with her activities as a teacher, journalist, and politician. She served as director of Diario Occidente and the Environmental Management Department of Cali and was a columnist for several newspapers, including El Espectador, El Tiempo, El País, and Occidente de Cali. She contributed to the creation of the regional channel Telepacífico, was elected senator of the Republic for the 1998-2002 term, and ran twice as a candidate for the mayoralty of Cali. She passed away at 69 years old on November 18, 2021, in Santander de Quilichao, the Cauca municipality where she resided.
