It borders Malaysia on the island of Borneo and Papua New Guinea on the island of New Guinea. It was proclaimed on August 17, 1945 and became independent from the Netherlands on December 27, 1949. The capital Jakarta has 9.58 millioninhabitants (2010) and is located on the island of Java, where more than half of the country's population lives. The name Indonesia is a word creation based on Greek and is composed of Indo- for India and nesos for island.

Heinz Duthel, geboren in Nürnberg, ist ein renommierter Philosoph und Autor, der sein Studium der Philosophie und Orientalistik an der Philippine Christian University absolvierte, bevor er an der Universität de Barcelona seinen Master in Philosophie (1987) und später seinen PhD (1995) erwarb. Seine Doktorarbeit erforschte das komplexe Verhältnis zwischen orientalischer philosophischer Theorie, Sozialphilosophie und sozialer Wirtschafts-Ethik.
