"Oh, this is so real and so beautiful. As my family navigates the aftermath of the loss of my 20-year-old son to suicide, your writing has been a torch. Thank you for sharing your pain and your journey. It helps those of us on the path behind you." -Pam Kirsch, bereaved mother of Carson, Louisiana Endure is for those who have lost a child, a brother or sister, or a grandchild. Endure is for those whose heart has been shattered into a trillion pieces and who now carry a large, gaping hole in their soul, aching down into their very bones. Endure is for those who know that a demarcation line has been drawn: there was your life before your loss, and now your life after your loss. What is this mess, this wilderness, this devastation? Endure is for those who know what it means to fall to your knees and not be able to breathe. In Endure: A Memoir of Grief, Resilience, and Love, Kelly McCoy-who lost his son, Cooper, at 23-offers a deeply personal guide for those navigating the loss of a child. Endure goes beyond storytelling, providing readers with tools and insights to navigate grief and honor their loved ones. Through poetic metaphors like 'shadow casting,' 'crane migrations,' and 'spiritual edgework'-symbols of resilience-Kelly invites readers to wrestle with their grief and swim down to the deep places to pick up the spiritual coins. Written from a father's and retired firefighter's perspective, Endure challenges societal norms about masculinity and grief, reminding readers that there is strength in vulnerability. Whether you are a grieving parent, a family member, or someone seeking to understand grief's impact, Endure offers companionship, practical steps, and reminds us: love endures.
