Rapid urbanization is leading to an increase in waste all over the world, and in many cities as a result. Cotonou is no exception. As a result, the proliferation of waste is an environmental problem, from the management of waste by COGEDA/DST to that of SGDS SA. Despite the dynamism of Cotonou's household waste management system, insalubrity persists in many parts of the city. The management methods adopted by households are not without impact on the environment and the health of the population. This book analyzes household waste management methods in Cotonou. It aims to assess the quality of the environment and the epidemiological profile of households in relation to the management methods adopted. It shows that the way household solid waste is stored continues to defy the modernization practices implemented by SGDS SA, which recommends the acquisition of approved garbage cans. These management methods are not very ecological, are a source of environmental nuisance and contribute to insalubrity in the city, resulting in a number of illnesses.
