Environmental protection within the scope of public management in the state of Amazonas plays a central role in the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity, given the global relevance of the Amazon region. This study investigated the effectiveness of public environmental protection policies implemented in the state, using a methodological approach based on a literature review and document analysis. The objectives included analysing the implementation and results of public policies, identifying gaps and challenges faced in sustainable management, and proposing strategic recommendations for improving these practices. In addition, the cases of the Belo Monte and Balbina hydroelectric plants were analysed, illustrating the environmental impacts caused by these projects and their implications for public policy formulation in the Amazon region. The results revealed significant advances, but also exposed structural and operational deficiencies, such as the lack of effective enforcement and coordination between levels of governance.
