This book provides an overview of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) concepts in the hospitality and tourism industry. As ESGs become more prevalent as a strategic management and development tool, there is a need to understand a holistic picture of ESG practices. The book examines ESG conceptualization, development strategies, measurements, and reporting systems and the use of ESGs in different sectors of the industry, such as hotels, restaurants, casinos, and destination management. It demonstrates how their application should extend to the community engagement and government policymaking process. With contribution from leading international thinkers within the field, chapters presents industry-specific examples of best practices and guidelines as well as discussion points. This book provides comprehensive guidelines for students, industry operators, academia, and policymakers to achieve sustainable development goals. It suggests practical discussion questions to improve the ESG strategies to lead to positive outcomes for every stakeholder.
Ki-Joon Back is leader of hospitality education in both teaching and research: Multiple research award winners and developed numerous students: World Top 2% Most Cited Scientists for Entire Career by Stanford University; the World Top 1% of scientists in the Business and Management Section by Research.com; elected National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, faculty member. He has published over 170 manuscripts, book chapters, and proceedings in the area of hospitality and tourism research (consumer behaviors, gambling-related research). He has received over 28 research awards at the international level of conferences and journals, including the highest research achievement award in the hospitality and tourism discipline, the ICHRIE Lifetime Research Achievement Award and the Founder's Award for the Lifetime Hospitality Graduate Education. Ki-Joon founded the Consortium of Global Sustainability, including 68 global academic members in 17 countries (the-consortium.net); and serves as a managing editor, associate editor, guest editor, and editorial board member of top- tier hospitality and tourism journals
