Eureka, A Prose Poem is over 40,000 words in length and it is not a poem! It was Poe's last major work and was based on a lecture Poe presented in 1848, titled "On The Cosmography of the Universe". He had hoped for an audience of hundreds and that the proceeds of the lecture would pay for his new journal "The Stylus". However, only 60 attended and they went away confused.
