Inspired by a true story, Eva's Only Wish is a moving and beautifully illustrated picture book that celebrates the power of hope, the love between a mother and daughter, and the importance of access to stories, especially for children who face barriers to books and literacy. Eva lives with her mother in a small, humble home where every dollar is stretched, and extras like books are out of reach. But Eva holds a secret hope in her heart: to one day own a book she can call her own and maybe, just maybe, meet a new friend to share it with. Rooted in themes of resilience, family, friendship, and the joy of reading, this book is a valuable addition to school libraries, classrooms, and home collections. It gently opens conversations about socio-economic challenges, empathy, and literacy for all children. Perfect for educators, librarians, and caregivers looking for inclusive and emotionally rich stories that reflect diverse family experiences and nurture meaningful discussions at home or in classrooms to foster early literacy from ages 3 to 7 years old.
Angela Balgobin lives in Ontario, Canada. She is a children's book author and illustrator with over 14 years of experience as an educator in public education for young children from all walks of life. Her passion for art began early but took a backseat for many years. Her love relationship with art rekindled several years ago, using art as her healing escape on her mental health journey; she began to create beautiful oil, acrylic, textured canvas paintings, and digital art. Her first book "Lucy's Kindness Jar" was published in 2024. Recently, her art medium, acrylic and rock texture on canvas, "Balance in Shades of Black and White Shoreline," was featured in the Art and Culture Hall at Oshawa City Hall in Ontario, Canada. Angela creates art by drawing from her childhood and diverse cultural experiences. She writes and illustrates stories celebrating kindness, resilience, diversity and inclusion. Her book Eva's Only Wish was inspired by her journey, with characters reflecting beauty from diverse family backgrounds. Through her illustrations and storytelling, she hopes to inspire young readers to embrace their uniqueness and dream big. When not writing or illustrating, she enjoys exploring nature, experimenting with new artistic styles, and sharing stories that spark imagination and connection.
