Throughout the poems in Exile Is Home, Elvis Alves examines the drudgery of work and the draw of the creative mind. He juxtaposes these aspects in the attempt to reveal the freedom that is inherent in being human. The collection encapsulates the author's propensity to gaze at society with a critical eye, while shining light on that which engenders hope.
