This book focuses on the study of deformation, particularly transverse deformation of the shield tunnel. The book begins with a theoretical analysis based on structural mechanics is introduced, followed by a full-scale model test conducted to monitor the deformation of the structure under gradually increasing loads. Most of the structure types existing in the Shanghai Metro system are researched in the tests, and the deformation mechanisms for different structures were separately summarized. In addition, tunnels with reinforcement measures are also tested to verify the effects of the reinforcement. Based on the research results, safety control standards for the tunnels are proposed, and several deformation treatment measures are introduced with four application cases in Shanghai. From this book, readers will learn the deformation mechanisms of shield tunnel structures and corresponding treatment measures, which can help them solve relevant issues and enhance their awareness of structural safety risks at the same time.
Rulu Wang, now as the deputy chief engineer of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co., Ltd, has been working on the research and application of the structural protections of Shanghai metro over 20 years since graduated with a post-doctor degree from Tongji University. Wang has successively won the Shanghai Leading Talent, the first Liu Jianhang Academician Foundation Award and other honors. Over 30 research projects about metros were undertook or participated by him over the past years. He has won 4 prizes of Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award (including first, second, and third award), 3 awards of Shanghai Municipal Excellent Invention Competition, 2 second prizes of the Ministry of Land and Resources Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 third prize of the Ministry of Construction. He also owns 3 published works, 2 utility model patents, 3 invention patents, and more than 40 academic papers. Liu Xian, now is working as a professor and doctoral supervisor of the College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University. He has long been engaged in the research on the life cycle design theory and maintenance technology of tunnels and underground structures. Up to now, he has published more than 300 papers in important journals and academic conferences at home and abroad. He has edited and published several works such as “Waterproof Design and Construction of Tunnel Engineering”. Jiaping Li, now as the deputy general manager and chief engineer of Shanghai Metro Monitoring and Inspection Management Co., Ltd, has been working on the maintenance of civil structures of rail transit and management of protection areas of metro for decades. He has participated in more than 10 scientific research projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Shanghai, and the edition of 8 professional technical standards. He has obtained 6 authorized patents, published more than 20 academic papers, and won 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes and 1 third prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award. Jingya Yan, now serves as the deputy director of Shentong Metro Inspection Office. She has been working in the field of maintenance of rail transit structure and protection area for over 15 years and got the qualification of professor-level senior engineer. She has won 1 first prize (the fifth) and 1 second prize (the seventh) of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 outstanding invention awards in the Shanghai Excellent Invention Selection Competition, and 1 employee innovation gold award. She was also selected as the outstanding technical leader of Shanghai. She has published 14 professional papers, compiled 3 professional books, and 2 technical regulations and standards.
