This book systematically reviews the progress in explainable AI (XAI) and introduces the methods, tools, and applications of XAI technologies in job sequencing and scheduling. Relevant references and real case studies are provided as supporting evidence.
To date, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have been widely applied in job sequencing and scheduling. However, some advanced AI methods are not easy to understand or communicate, especially for factory workers with insufficient background knowledge of AI. This undoubtedly limits the practicability of these methods. To address this issue, explainable AI has been considered a viable strategy. XAI methods suitable for job sequencing and scheduling differ from those for other fields in manufacturing, such as pattern recognition, defect analysis, estimation, and prediction. This is the first book to systematically integrate current knowledge in XAI and demonstrate its application to manufacturing.
Dr. Chen has guest edited several special issues on mobile healthcare-related topics for journals including Health Care Management Science, Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing, International Journal of Intelligent Systems, etc. He has also published papers on mobile health care in journals such as International Journal of Intelligent Systems, Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing, Health Care Management Science, Cognitive Computation, Health Policy and Technology, and Digital Health. Dr. Lee is the Associate Editor of the IEEE Sensors Journal and has guest edited a special issue on wearable inertial sensors for gait for Sensors. She has also published papers on Gait & Posture, IEEE Sensors Journal, Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, Journal of Biomechanics, Clinical Neurophysiology, etc. She is also an active reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics & Security, IEEE Sensors Journal, Advanced Engineering Informatics, Gait & Posture, etc.
