Facing the Rising Sun: Activity Book By Dr. Lathardus Goggins II"I rise. I reflect. I remember. I become." Facing the Rising Sun: Activity Book is a culturally grounded, youth-centered resource designed to nurture self-awareness, cultural identity, and purpose through reflection and creativity. Rooted in African-centered philosophy and supported by a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) framework, this activity book offers guided prompts, symbolic explorations, and affirmations that invite young people to look inward, reach backward, and move forward toward a fuller understanding of who they are and why they matter. Through themes of Sankofa (learning from the past), Ubuntu (connection to community), and Ma'at (living in truth and balance), this book encourages youth to explore essential questions:Who am I? What do I value? What is my purpose? How do I belong to something greater than myself? Each activity is paired with components from a SEL Wheel, showing how the exercises develop elements of the social emotional learning framework. Whether used in a classroom, mentoring session, or rites of passage program, this book serves as a tool for liberation, healing, and transformation. Facing the Rising Sun is more than an activity book-it is a journey toward identity, dignity, and light.
