Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. (Habakkuk 2:4)For years, I have been preoccupied with the question of what faith really is. Does it mean that I only have to believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins to be saved? Does it mean that, since it is not a matter of works, I can sit back for the rest of my life and nothing more needs to be done? The best way to find answers to these questions is to consult the Bible and see how it deals with the subject, thereby taking a look in the mirror and reflecting on its text.Dirk Hiemstra

Autorenporträt
The author was raised in a Reformed setting and grew up with the Bible. From an early age, he wanted to become a missionary or a pastor, but personal circumstances prevented him from doing so. He came to faith in 1972 and was baptised in 1992. Since then, he has been involved in various evangelical settings. Since 2013, he has focused on this full-time. His passion for the Bible has grown stronger over time, guided by the motto, 'Thy word is true...' (Psalm 119:160a). He has also developed a passion for building a spiritual house, which has resulted in the creation of a multilingual website called www.huis-van-god.nl that focuses on the Bible, the gospel and the New Covenant in Christ and how these relate to the Israel of God. The author is wary of using isolated texts to impose our own "truth" on the Bible rather than extracting the truth from it. This passion has recently resulted in the writing of a number of books.
