This book is the result of the dissertation for the Professional Master's Degree in Design at the University of the Region of Joinville/UNIVILLE defended by the author in 2015, under the guidance of Professor Elenir Carmen Morgenstern. The research, anchored in an anthropological approach, delves into the themes of 'Fashion Design' and 'manual production' (referred to in this work as 'Craftsmanship'), conjecturing reciprocal processes in this relationship. Based on a social approach, more specifically on Pierre Bourdieu's theory of signs, and applying the theory in practice, an attempt is made to define the field of Fashion Design. The theoretical research is applied in practice by women's groups that aim to generate work and income through manual production. The research highlights social responsibility and the need for a reciprocal social relationship between artisans and designers in the search for identity for the artifacts produced, considering the producing agents and the historical/geographical/cultural location of this production. From this perspective, social, cultural, and historical aspects are considered constitutive of the practices of manual producers and designers.
