Autorenporträt
William Allingham (1824-1889) was an Irish poet, diarist, and literary figure best known for his works that blend romanticism with a deep appreciation for Irish culture. Born in County Donegal, Allingham began his literary career as a writer of poetry, often reflecting the landscapes, folk traditions, and emotional depth of Ireland. He is particularly noted for his poem The Faeries, which showcases his interest in folklore. Additionally, Allingham worked as an editor for The London Magazine and was involved in the literary circles of his time. His diary, published posthumously, provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of a Victorian-era writer and his interactions with contemporaries like Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
