Each new print copy of Fire Protection Hydraulics and Water Supply, Revised Third Edition also includes Navigate Advantage Access that unlocks a complete eBook, Study Center, homework and Assessment Center, and a dashboard that reports actionable data. Fire service pump operators must have an understanding of the many laws of science that govern the study of hydraulics and water supply in order to be able to handle the complex hydraulic problems that may arise in real world scenarios. Based on the Fire and Emergency Services in Higher Education (FESHE) model curriculum for Fire Protection Hydraulics and Water Supply, the third edition of Fire Protection Hydraulics and Water Supply effectively teaches hydraulics by systematically addressing the underlying science in a way that makes challenging subject matter easier to understand and retain. Bill began his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter with the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department, Brentwood Maryland, in 1965. As a volunteer I filled several line and staff positions, including fire chief. In 1973 he was appointed to the District of Columbia Fire Department (DCFD), beginning a career that spanned 20 years. Most of the 20 years was spend serving in the firefighting division as a Firefighter, Sergeant, Lieutenant (shift commander), Capatin (company commander) and Acting Battalion Chief. During his career in the DCFD he was privileged to serve in some of the District’s most prestigious engine companies, including two year as Lieutenant at Engine 4, and later as Captain for two year at Engine 11 and served three years in the Office of the Fire Marshal. After retirement from DCFD, he worked for four years in the Fire Marshal’s office of the Fairfax County, Virginia, Department of Fire and Rescue. I left Fairfax County in early 2001 to accept a position as Assistant Fire Chief with the Harrisonburg, Virginia, Fire Department (HFD and retired as Deputy Fire Chief from the HFD in January, 2011.He graduated from the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, Maryland, with a BA degree in Fire Science, as well as an AA degree in Management.
