This heartwarming, humorous debut novella celebrates the magic of small town and country life. Joey Finch's world has just fallen apart. Her fiancé broke off their engagement, and she was forced to close her beloved coffee shop in Boston after struggling through COVID. In debt and behind on rent, she returns to her Midwestern hometown of Prairie Creek and her family's farm. The only problem is, no one, including her family, knows the reason for her visit. And on top of getting up the nerve to break the news, she'll have to face the strained relationship with her stubborn, old-fashioned father. Over the course of her stay, a series of heartwarming and humorous events unfold: baking in the cozy farmhouse kitchen; catching up with the fun-loving farmhand, Huck; fending off the town gossips; and facing-off with a disgruntled rooster named Carl. A charming, quirky cast of characters make their appearance, as well, including the Book Club ladies and the Saturday "old timer" coffee group. Before she knows it, Joey finds herself falling back in love with the place she was once desperate to escape and reconnecting with the people she left behind, including her childhood best friend, Jessie, and her high school sweetheart, Matt, who has been pining for her ever since she left town ten years ago. But after a new job opportunity presents itself, and a fateful newspaper ad finds its way into her hands by chance, Joey must decide: Will she return to Boston to rebuild the life she worked so hard to create, or will she stay and replant her roots?
Born and raised in rural central Illinois, Lauren Noard resides in her hometown with her husband, daughter, two sons, one chocolate lab, and two black cats. A former high school English teacher, she left her teaching career in 2023 to stay at home with her youngest son, which has allowed her more freedom to pursue her passion for writing. She enjoys writing heartwarming, humorous women's fiction set against small-town and rural landscapes, mostly in the American Midwest. Although she's been writing since she was very young, Firefly Landing is her debut published work, and the first in the Prairie Creek Trilogy (books 2 and 3 coming in the near future)! She is also working on a standalone novel. When she's not writing or chasing her kids, she enjoys reading (of course), spending time with family, going for walks, and decorating her house for every season and holiday.
