Background: A high percentage of children between the ages of 6 and 10 have flexible pes planus (flat feet). Foot muscle training is an established part of physical education in the Austrian primary school curriculum. The aim of this study is to show the extent to which, the methods used and the importance of foot muscle training in Viennese primary schools, with the intention of providing practical information for improving specific training. Conclusion: This study provides a clear picture of the subjective importance and frequency of foot muscle training in Viennese primary schools. With regard to possible cooperation between physiotherapists and primary school teachers, a number of potential areas were identified. Further research with a larger sample size and an expanded field of research appears justified.
